The little year that was.
As 2016 winds to a close, we’re left with the afterglow of spending time with the exceptional women we’ve interviewed thus far. We connected and resonated on a deep level with multitudes of women and created and collectively grew with each skerrick of wisdom we lapped up and relished in.

At this point in the game; the level of super women that are orbiting this planet is otherworldly. Blessed be, the social media world for making the planet that much smaller. Thank you, Internet, for bringing the bevy of complex women into all of our consciousnesses. What a time to be alive.
At this point, you’d think I would have gotten used to the extremely exceptional women that I continually get to to interview. I can safely say I haven’t. Will I ever? The part of this job that makes me lose my cool, internally boil over with excitement is that conventional small talk doesn’t exist in this territory. “So, the weather?” is not in our ether. It’s all well and good to just shoot the breeze, but with this work it’s down to business, no holds barred, bounding over the stereotypical “getting to know” lines that we’re known to casually whip out at the best of times. There is no acquaintance in this line of work, it’s zero to one hundred really quick.
We aim to allow women to see our kind in their element, in their most empowered, raw, vulnerable and simultaneously strong state. Then each and every one of us can use this newfound power, community and support as a foundation for our own unique offerings.
Talking to these empowered, complex women is my favourite part of my job. It gives me context for my own female understanding, it reopens the door to conversation. Somewhere along the line, the disempowered female experience closed it (I’m not naming names…the patriarchy), but within this realm of conversation we lay the groundwork for heart-to-hearts amongst ourselves, with our sisters, brothers, elders and we remember on a cellular level what it feels like to deeply listen and moreover to be deeply heard. It’s a unique experience, but through the space that our COMMUNE is holding, we aim to allow women to see our kind in their element, in their most empowered, raw, vulnerable and simultaneously strong state. Then each and every one of us can use this newfound power, community and support as a foundation for our own unique offerings. It therefore becomes a cumulative action of endless support and bountiful creation.
Humans often see our circumstance as inevitably stagnant, but we are creatures of plasticity (science, you know!) We think we’re stuck in our ways, but when we’re presented with a new mode of understanding, a new unyoked experience we can shift our state of being, we can reprogram our minds to adjust to this unshackled state. We’ve come so far, and with the words, the fearless exposing of the self that these women are offering, absorbing what these women we’re talking to is not the gospel, rather an example of what the divine female energy can offer and can create when channelled through the female form. Women are magic. We are the first to know.
There's a thread of similarity that ties all the women who's glow we've basked in during 2016, amongst glistening diamonds we've asked, laughed and were swept away with the sheer wonder of this exercise. There's a thread of similarity which, like a snake, weaves amongst the creators; fearless, using their hearts and minds to transmute and bring forth a new era of women. This woman has forever existed, but like a timid animal, she is now coaxed out of the comfort of her home into the unknown. This makes way for more of the same to come forth. Each woman we've talked to have stepped over a threshold; broken a glass ceiling if you will. They've chosen to surpass and embrace the fear that can inevitable drown a woman's courage. There is no courage without fear - that's foolhardy.
We see that no matter what each of these souls do, from the chocolatiers, the artists, musicians, perfumers, naturopaths, holistic beauty therapists and the rest, through each of their courage and fearlessness (in whatever way it manifests itself) have paved the way for more women to be welcome to do the same. Power to the Empowered.
